My focus - in research, articles, books, lectures and teaching - is on:

  • Language about and understandings of neurodivergent children and adults

  • Changing definitions of and approaches to mental illness

  • Practices, identity and gender roles in families

  • Labels and names for people, phenomena, conditions and diagnoses

In our language and narratives, there is information about our attitudes and values, who we are, who we want to be and the time and society that we live in. How is reality shaped by the language we choose to apply to it - and vice versa? This question is the focal point of my work.
